The Space for Arts and Knowledge opened on May 24 at Largo da Conceição No. 5, in Beja, as a new hub for cultural and artistic activity in the Baixo Alentejo region. Conceived as a place of encounter between artistic creation, critical thinking, and knowledge sharing, Futurama aims to be a living platform for experimentation, education, and dialogue between artists, thinkers, and the community.

The opening featured an intensive and diverse program, free of charge, that filled the space throughout the day. Creative workshops, concerts, performances, exhibitions, and debates created a vibrant atmosphere open to all audiences, celebrating the diversity of artistic expression and contemporary thought.

Starting in June, Futurama will launch a continuous monthly program, entirely free, with regular activities designed to foster public engagement and strengthen the artistic fabric of the region. Workshops will take place on the first Saturday of each month, led by both national and international artists and educators, offering intensive creative experiences, knowledge exchange, and collaborative practices. These will be privileged spaces for experimentation, blending disciplines such as visual arts, sound, performance, writing, and digital arts.

On the third Saturday of each month, the "Constellations" series will host discussions and debates around themes that intersect the arts and contemporary society — such as the relationship between art and technology, the role of cultural heritage today, or the connections between artistic practice and mental health. These reflective moments will feature the participation of artists, researchers, curators, and other cultural professionals, promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and the building of collective critical thought.

The space will also host two long-term visual arts exhibitions: the first running from May to September 2025, and the second from October 2025 to January 2026. These will showcase works by invited artists alongside pieces developed within the scope of Futurama’s activities.

More than just a physical space, Futurama aims to establish itself as a cultural platform committed to contemporary creation, artistic education, and community engagement — promoting a space of encounter, experimentation, and shared thinking — always free and accessible to all.
