The Futurama Festival already has a date set for 2023! After a strong first edition, which inaugurated a new circuit of transdisciplinary creation and programming, the Futurama Festival returns in June to heat up the Baixo Alentejo summer.
During the first three weekends of the month, around 20 artistic events are expected to bring us together around concerts, performances, installations and workshops, radiating warmth through Mértola (3 and 4 June), Castro Verde (9 and 10 June) and Beja (16 and 17 June).
Cantexto returns, Futurama's original project offering new songs to the Cante Alentejano repertoire based on texts commissioned from 7 Portuguese writers, sung by 7 choral groups from the region and set to music by Ana Santos, Celina da Piedade and Paulo Ribeiro. Highlight for the new creations that arise from artistic residencies and which weave a surprising dialogue with the different issues and agents of each community: Rui Catalão with the migrant groups from Beja, John Romão with the Clube Náutico de Mértola, Jacira da Conceição and her Cape Verdean heritage with the ceramics from Alentejo, Clara Andermatt with the Roma community of Bairro das Pedreiras, and many more to be discovered soon. See first confirmed artists.
With a dynamic of vibrant movement between geographical and artistic territories, the local and the global, Futurama Festival continues to be a meeting point for friction and crossing between the past and the present – is this how we get a glimpse into possible futures?
