It's been a month since the first edition of Festival Futurama came to an end. There were four intense weekends, with enormous artistic diversity: from absolute premieres — such as the concerts by Gaspar Varela and Yerai Cortés, Yamila and Filipe Sambado or Angélica Salvi and the Tocadores de Viola Campaniça de Castro Verde — to the culmination of long term projects from Futurama — such as Cantexto, Geração Futurama or Artists at Schools —, to workshops with the local community — such as Fidel Évora's workshop in Beja, in Bairro das Pedreiras, the workshop by Carincur and João Pedro Fonseca with students from the School of São Sebastião in Mértola, or the workshop-performance by Cláudia Dias at the Beja's Municipal Library. We also did the national premiere of exciting documentaries, presented performances with the local community and ended our days in celebration with some parties. Watch here a summary of what happened but also of what remains. Some of the projects that initiated here will tour national and internationally, once Futurama is simultaneously local and global. What happens in Alentejo does not stay in Alentejo.
Futurama will continue to be a meeting and crossing point between artistic territories, between traditional and contemporary practices, the local, national and international dimension, between cultural and natural heritage, and, of course, the publics. Thank you for following us throughout these four weeks of Festival Futurama, to the artists who offered us memorable experiences in the several presentation spaces in Mértola, Beja, Serpa and Castro Verde. To the municipal partners in the region, to Mértola City Council, Beja City Council, Serpa City Council and Castro Verde City Council, to the Millennium BCP Foundation and to all our local and national partners, essential for the construction of this new contemporary movement in territories of Baixo Alentejo, we thank you for your great support.
In September and October 2023, the 2nd edition of the Futurama Festival will once again propose a program with new encounters and crossings, new artistic experiences and with different voices in Baixo Alentejo region.
