Actress, performer and director Joana de Verona is on her way to our partner schools in Beja and Serpa for another session of "What is that of the contemporary?", part of the Escola Futurama programme.

Biography

Joana de Verona is a Portuguese-Brazilian actress, performer and director, born in 1989. She began her training in theatre and dance in 1998 and her professional practice in film in 2004. She studied theatre at Chapitô, took Joana Craveiro's performance creation course and graduated in theatre at ESTC. She attended courses with theatre and dance trainers such as Norman Taylor, John Mowat, Deborah Hay, Peter Michael Dietz, Mathilde Monnier, Jan Fabre teaching group, John Romão, Victor Hugo Pontes, Márcia Milhazes, Miguel Seabra, Cie DosàDeux, Maria Ramos, Tânia Carvalho, Mark Tompkins, among others. In theatre and dance, she has worked with Gonçalo Amorim, Vânia Rovisco, Carlos Avillez, Marco Martins, Luís Miguel Cintra, Mónica Garnel, Beto Coville, Miguel Seabra, Mónica Calle, Christiane Jatahy, João Galante and Madalena Victorino. He trained in film directing at the Ateliers Varan school in Paris. She directed the documentary "Chantal", which premiered at Indie Lisboa and is currently available on the Filmin platform. In cinema, she has worked with various directors in Portugal, France, Brazil, Germany and Italy, such as Marco Martins, João Salaviza, Catarina Ruivo, João Botelho, Larissa Figueiredo, Renata Belo Pinheiro, Lúcia Murat, Gregório Graziosi, Fanny Ardant, Miguel Gomes, António Ferreira, Maxence Vassilievitch, Pierre Edouard Dumora and Carlos Conceição. Among other honours, the most recent was the Best Actress Award by SPAutores. She co-founded the theatre company Fiasco.
