Popular is a challenge-performance rooted in autofiction, in which the creator and performer aspires to become a popular artist, questioning the boundaries of the cultural landscape and the notion of the “popular” through a fusion of both worlds. The piece draws on the tension between elite culture and mass culture to reflect on the audience as a collective and the social divisions this dynamic may reveal.

Blending biography and research, this creation also explores concepts within the same lexical field as “popular,” such as popularity, pop, and populism. Ultimately, Popular continually questions whether it can, in fact, be considered popular.
