This project emerges from an artistic residency developed with the students of the Environmental and Rural Tourism course at the Alvito Vocational School. Through photography, we sought to observe the territory of Alvito and its idea of sustainability — not as a fixed concept, but as a set of relationships in constant transformation. Between traditions and contemporary practices, layers of belonging and exclusion emerge, as well as questions of identity and territory. Between traditional agricultural work and the advance of technology, fragile tensions and balances are revealed, places where past and future intersect.

The region’s strong agricultural and livestock traditions reveal ways of life that both coexist with and confront the new technologies and contemporary rhythms. These practices, rooted in a deep relationship with the land, offer glimpses of as many possibilities for renewal as tensions inherent to change. Cante and gastronomy appear as bridges between generations, bringing people together through gestures and rituals that keep local identity alive. All these elements are fundamental to the vitality of a community that seeks to preserve its traditions while reflecting on sustainability — a condition essential for the continuity of this territory and the world.

More than seeking answers, this project proposes a poetic and critical gaze at these interconnections, at what endures, what changes, and what resists in Alvito.
