Biography
The work of Raquel Castro (1976) is based on the relationship between sound, art, environment and urbanism and has been developed in different formats. She is a soundscape researcher, filmmaker and curator. Founder and director of the sound art festival Lisboa Soa and the international symposium Invisible Places, she holds a PhD in Communication and Arts from FCSH-UNL and an integrated researcher at CICANT / Universidade Lusófona, where she participates in projects that focus on the aural experience in urban territories. Her activities as a researcher and curator resulted in different documentaries, such as Soundwalkers (2008) and SOA (2020), where interviews, art and sound environments combine to raise awareness about sound. In 2021, she was selected by the European network of music festivals Sounds Now to curate the exhibition Sound Art in Public Spaces and collaborates regularly with other researchers, artists and festivals.
