Gabriela Albergaria
Biography
Born in Beja, Marta Mestre is a curator and has worked mostly in Portugal and Brazil. She is currently artistic director of the José de Guimarães International Arts Center, Portugal. Graduated in Art History and in Culture and Communication from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Université d'Avignon. She was curator at Instituto Inhotim, assistant curator at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, guest curator and professor at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. Among his curatorial works, he highlights “Farsa” [SESC-Pompéia, São Paulo, 2020], “Alto Level Baixo” [Galeria Zé dos Bois, Lisbon 2019-20], “Daniel Steegmann | Philippe Van Snick” [MAM-Rio and Casa Modernista, São Paulo, 2015], “Actions, strategies and situations in the MAM-Rio collections” [Museu de Arte Modernista do Rio de Janeiro, 2015], “Power and Adversity: art of Latin America in collections in Portugal” [Municipal Galleries, City Museum, Lisbon, 2017], “Ricardo Basbaum: Cut-contact- contamination” [Jaqueline Martins Gallery, São Paulo 2017], among others. She is currently preparing the exhibitions "Desvairar 22" [SESC-Pinheiros, São Paulo] and "Philippe Van Snick: Ellipse" [S.M.A.K, Ghent], both in 2022. She is a member of the General Council of the University of Minho. She is part of the team of curators of the editorial project Imago (KKYM). She regularly participates in visual arts award juries and writes about contemporary art.
