The Futurama Festival is a celebration of the diversity and depth of the cultural and artistic ecosystem we nurture in Baixo Alentejo. Inspired by the ancient wisdom of Hesiod, who linked agricultural work with the rhythm of the seasons and the persistence of life on earth, we propose connecting this perspective to the daily work of artistic creation in this traditionally agricultural region. Just as farming shapes and nourishes the land, artistic creation transforms and enriches the cultural fabric of Baixo Alentejo, bringing with each season a new cycle of cultivation and renewal.
The 5th edition of the Futurama Festival establishes itself as a meeting place for artistic creation, the local region, and the community. In 2026, the festival will take place in Beja (May 15 and 16), Mértola (May 22), and Alvito (May 30), presenting a multidisciplinary program—free of charge—that bridges artistic disciplines, generations, and contexts.
Among exhibitions, installations, performances, concerts, and debates, highlights include collaborative projects with local communities, as well as Cantexto, which reinvents Alentejo folk singing in dialogue with contemporary literature. Throughout the month of May, Futurama offers a journey that connects creation, participation, and reflection, affirming culture as a space for sharing, experimentation, and building futures.
Admission is free for the entire program.
